BURGER KING

$1,000 each and may be used for educational expenses, such as tuition fees and books, during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. DeMayo, Michael D., L.L.P.

Ten $2,500 scholarships to graduating seniors who are chosen by their selection committee as having submitted the best essay on a pre-selected topic and who will attend a four-year institution of higher learning.  To qualify, the student MUST have applied for acceptance for full-time enrollment at a four-year college or university.  Deadline:  March 2, 2009.  Applications are also available for download on their website at www.DeMayoLaw.com . Each scholarship recipient will be notified by telephone or the results no later than April 10, 2009.

EMORY UNIVERSITY

Nominations for their scholars, a merit-based scholarship are available.  Four nominations from HHS.

GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARSHIP

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding, low income African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American*, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest.   Applications can be found online at www.gmsp.org and are due by January 12, 2009.

GENERAL HUGH SHELTON

NC State University College of Textiles

CENTENNIAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM. Ten $47,500 scholarships--interested in the fields of engineering, business management, chemistry, polymer chemistry, international studies, design, apparel, sourcing, fashion, merchandising or retail management.   Official registration is online at http://www.tx.ncsu.edu/student_services/centennial_scholars/nominee/. Nominations must reach their office no later than November 3, 2008 at 11:59 pm.

NC TEACHING FELLOWS

The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program is open to current 2008-2009 North Carolina high school seniors and high qualifying juniors accepted for college admission who are interested in becoming teachers and are legal residents of North Carolina for tuition purposes and will have met the twelve-month in-state residency requirement. (Dependents of military personnel are eligible only if the parent/guardian has declared North Carolina as their state of residence.) See Ms. Hull in Counseling Services if you are interested. Completed applications and references are due to Liaison Counselors by October 17, 2008.

PROFILES IN COURAGE ESSAY

Write an original and creative essay of less than 1,000 words that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage.  Five different sources needed:   examples would be newspaper articles, books, and /or personal interviews.  Must register online. Essays can be submitted online (preferred) or in mail postmarked by January 10.    http://www.jfklibrary.org 

QUEEN'S COLLEGE

Scholarship now available for $42,000 ($10,500/year) for four years of study from their unlimited number of scholarships awarded to graduating high school seniors. This scholarship is based on weighted GPA and test scores at time of admission and has no deadline.

ROBERTSON SCHOLARSHIP

The Robertson Scholars Program is not just a merit scholarship; nor is it just a leadership development program. The Robertson Scholars Program is a comprehensive, long term investment in our Scholars' futures. December 1, 2008 - Supplemental Materials Form due. 

SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS

More than 60 corporate and university-sponsored scholarships available to qualified students who are interested in the study of engineering and related sciences. SUN TRUST

College scholarship sweepstakes. This scholarship, not based on GPA or financial need, offers $1,000 to seniors. Only one entry per person for each drawing.  Students can register after each drawing for the next scheduled drawing. The first drawing will be on October 31.
 

WIG BANK OF CALDWELL COUNTY

This scholarship is available for seniors who are US Citizens, have a 3.0 or better, and intend to seek a degree of higher education. Please pick up an application in Counseling services. Applications are due by October 6 and turned in no later than 5:00 pm at The Wig Bank of Caldwell County.

ALPHA NU CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $250.00 or more to a high school senior girl from Burke County and Caldwell County.

Caldwell County High School Scholarship

 

This scholarship is presented annually to two graduating seniors at each of the three high schools in Caldwell County.

Value:  $500 each

Presented to students recommended by the high school counselor, based on financial need, academic achievement, and charter.  A committee composed of Altrusa International members will review the applications and make final decisions regarding scholarship recipients.

AMERICAN BUSINESS WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION--CALDWELL CHARTER CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP

 This scholarship is designed for African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the Chemical Sciences.

BEREA COLLEGE

Berea College plans to select 400 new students for admissions to the Fall 2008 entering class. Admission to Berea includes a tuition scholarship worth between $60,000 and $90,000 for most students.

Admission Requirements:

Academic – Most students score 20-30 on the Act and 930-1350 on the SAT have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and rank in the top 50% of their graduating class.

Financial – Most students have a family income of $10,000 - $50,000.  Use the FAFSA to determine financial eligibility for admission.

If you are interested in applying for admission, please Mr. Kunkle by Oct. 30 in order to be considered for nomination for tuition scholarships.

BEST BUY SCHOLARSHIPS

Awards:           1,500 students will receive $1,500 each

                        An additional 51 students will receive awards of $10,000 each

                        2) have a GPA of 2.5

                        3) demonstrate commitment to and involvement in volunteer community

                            service or work experience

BETA CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

 HHS can nominate 2 seniors for this scholarship.  Approximately 200 winners across the nation will receive $1,000 each and the top 5 winners can receive up to $15,000.  All materials must be completed and postmarked by DECEMBER 10.

BLUE RIDGE ELECTRIC MEMBERSHIP CORPORATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Applicants should be high school seniors whose parents or legal guardians are members of Blue Ridge Electric and who permanently reside within the cooperative’s service area.

 

            GOODMAN-HURT SCHOLARSHIPS

            Five $2,000 scholarships for students seeking a four-year degree

            Five  $800   scholarships for high school seniors or adults seeking a Vocational/

                                    technical degree from a local community college.

            Students from Caldwell, Ashe, Alleghany, Wilkes, and Watauga counties are

            eligible for the Goodman-Hurt Scholarships

THE CHARLES SUDDRETH SCHOLARSHIP

One $800 scholarship is available for Caldwell County residents and is only available for Caldwell County students seeking a vocational/technical degree.

Applications are available in the Guidance Office or at www.blueridgeemc.com and click on “In the Community” tab. Completed applications must be received or postmarked by MARCH 31. Three to five finalists from each of our four primary districts will be invited for a personal interview.

BROWN, RON SCHOLAR PROGRAM

The Ron Brown Scholar Program awards scholarships to academically talented, highly motivated African American students who are currently seniors and plan to pursue undergraduate degrees fulltime.  The scholarship totals $40,000 for each student ($10,000 per year for four years)

Deadlines:  NOV. 1 for this scholarship plus qualify for a limited number of additional scholarships.  JAN.9 is the final deadline for the Ron Brown Scholar Program only.

BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM

You DO NOT have to be employed at a Burger King to be eligible, however Burger King employees MAY be eligible.

Amount:  Awards are $1,000 each and there will be approximately 700 scholarships awarded this year.

CALDWELL COUNTY ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP

The Scholarship will be in the form of a one time grant in the amount of $1,500.

 

Eligibility:

Applicant must have a 2.0 GPA and complete the necessary forms furnished with the application.  Forms must be completed on each applicant by a guidance counselor and/or principal

CALDWELL COMMUNITY COLLEGE & TECHNICAL INSTITUTE

Bill and Vivian Armfield Endowed Scholarship

 

This scholarship is for a deserving student from Caldwell County majoring in the Elementary Education transfer program.  Recipient must be accepted for full-time enrollment at CCCT&I with a minimum high school GPA of 2.5.

Full tuition and fees for one year (no books) is the award amount.  Student may receive the scholarship for two years if scholarship standards are maintained.

 

Deadline for completed applications is MAY 1, 2008

CALDWELL COMMUNITY COLLEGE & TECHNICAL INSTITUTE MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Presidential Scholars:

Honors the valedictorian and salutatorian from each high school and CCC&TI service area.  Two-year award for $2,000 will cover tuition, fees, insurance and books.

 

Pearson Scholars:

Recognizes academically talented graduates from Hibriten, South Caldwell, and West Caldwell who demonstrate outstanding achievement.  Award amount is $1,000 per student annually.  This scholarship covers tuition, fees, insurance and books.

 

McAfee Scholars:

Recognizes outstanding students pursuing careers in business. The total award is $500 to cover tuition, fees, insurance, and books.

Belk of Lenoir Scholarship

Belk donates annually to provide scholarships to needy students who are graduating from Caldwell Country high schools.

 

Blackwelder Foundation Memorial Scholarship

The Blackwelder Foundation established this scholarship in 1986 as a memorial to Dr. Blackwelder.  The recipient is to be a needy Caldwell County resident who is pursuing a degree in nursing or another medical field.

 

Coffey Foundation

The Coffey Foundation established this scholarship fund in 1978 as a memorial to Mr. Harold Coffey.  Its recipients are to be needy residents of Caldwell and contiguous counties.  Preference is given to students in nursing and other medical programs.

 

Vester Corpening Scholarship

Established in 1980 by the Ebony Kinship Club, this memorial fund will aid needy students from Caldwell County.

 

The Knights of Phythias, Caldwell Lodge 78, Scholarship

Established in 1992 by the Knights of Phythias with a gift of $50,000, the scholarship will be used to assist needy students from Caldwell County.  Awards will be based on the specific financial needs of students and the varying cost of enrollment in different programs.

Emory C. McCall Scholarship

Friends of the late Emory C. McCall established this memorial scholarship as a perpetual fund in 1976.

 

The McConnell Family Scholarship

Given by Alice Howland McConnell and Elizabeth McConnell Jarrett in 1991 in memory of their parents, Loy Dixon and Adda Howland McConnell, this scholarship is designated for needy students preferably, but not exclusively, in health career programs.

 

Gladys and Glenn Miller Memorial Scholarship

Established in 1997 as a memorial to Gladys and Glenn Miller by their daughter, Dr. Susan Maynard, this fund is to be used for needy students.

 

Myron L. Moore, Jr. Scholarship

The Lenoir Mirror Company established this fund in 1983 to assist needy students.

 

Carl Prestwood Scholarship

The family and friends of the late Carl Prestwood established this memorial fund in 1976 to be used for scholarships for deserving students.

 

Thomas M. Robbins Nursing Scholarships

Established in 1997, this is an endowed scholarship for needy nursing students enrolled at CCCT&I.

 

Wilson Family Scholarship

Established in 1997 to honor Hugh and Martha Wilson by their children, this fund is to provide scholarship and other aid to needy students from Caldwell County.

 

Bank of Granite Literacy Fund

Funds are given by the Bank of Granite to assist literacy students who have special needs.

 

CCCT&I Foundation Child Care Fund

Provides funds to assist needy students with child care expenses.  Applicants should see the ChildCare/Career Counselor in Student Services for additional information

 

J.E. Broyhill Fund (Gateway Scholarship)

This scholarship is for tuition, fees, and books for students enrolled at CCCT&I who have completed at least one semester at Gateway High School and graduated from high school.  A letter from the Principal of Gateway High School certifying completion of one semester must accompany student at registration.

CALDWELL COMMUNITY COLLEGE & TECHNICAL INSTITUTE-BOYD C. WILSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship will be provided for a deserving student from Caldwell County who plans to obtain a teaching degree after two years of study at CCCT&I

 

Criteria:  Satisfactory academic achievement upon high school graduation. Must have a measurable financial need not met by Pell Grants.

 

Amount:  Tuition for one year (no books) amount varies – contingent upon revenue in account.

 

Deadline:  The complete application packet with recommendations and official high school transcripts is due  MAY 1.

CALDWELL COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTE-Jerry and Gail Orr Scholarship

 For deserving student pursuing a degree in a science-related field.  Must have an unmet financial need and be in good academic standing.  The complete application packet with recommendation and high school transcripts is due MAY 1.

CALDWELL COMMUNITY COLLEGE & TECHNICAL INSTITUTE-JOHN A. FORLINES, JR. EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship is for a first-generation college student from Caldwell County seeking an AA Degree in Business, Finance or Information Systems Technology.  Criteria:  Academic achievement, minimum GPA of 3.0 upon high school graduation.  Must not be eligible for Pell Grant.

 

Amount:  Full tuition and fees for one year (no books)

 

Deadline:  The complete application packet with recommendations and official high school transcript is due MAY 1.

 

Applications are available in Guidance Office or with Buffy Flowers – Transition Advisor with CCCT&I

CALDWELL COUNTY COUNCIL FOR WOMEN--GEORGE O. JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Award amount:  $1,000.00.  Any senior currently enrolled in Caldwell County Schools is eligible to apply.  Applicants must be US citizens and interested in seeking a degree or licensure.  All applicants must meet requirements for admissions to institutes of higher learning.  Consideration is given to students who have shown academic promise, leadership qualities, and financial need.  Final decisions are based on the overall student. 

 

Applications are in the Guidance Office.  Completed applications, including two letters of reference, transcripts, biographical statement and an essay must be received by April 30, 2008.

CALDWELL COUNTY UNIT OF THE NORTH CAROLINA RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL SCHOLARSHIP

One $700 scholarship will be given to a student from each high school.  The selection criteria include the following:

CALDWELL WOMEN’S CLUB

Scholarship Value:  $1,000

 

Local winner will be eligible to compete for the District Level Scholarship (Sallie Southall Cotton Scholarship)

Candidates are selected on the basis of academics, financial need, extra curricular activities, community service and character.

 

DEADLINE:  SIGN UP ON MR. KUNKLE’S DOOR NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, JAN. 10 AND GET APPLICATION PACKET IN GUIDANCE.

Caldwell Women’s Club will select from the applications for those who will be interviewed

CALDWELL COUNTY CHAPTER INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS (IAAP)

Each year, the Caldwell Chapter of IAAP grants a scholarship to students pursuing a career in the business/secretarial field.

The IAAP Scholarship is based in five criteria:

CALDWELL COUNTY SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATIONAL OFFICE PROFESSIONALS  (CCSAEOP) SCHOLARSHIP

CCCSAEOP will be rewarding a scholarship (minimum of $250) for one student from each area high school who is planning to attend Caldwell Community College and major in a business-related field.

Applications and instructions are available in the Guidance Office. Please turn in completed applications to Mr. Kunkle no later than Tuesday, April 1, 2008.

CALGON'S "TAKE ME AWAY' TO COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

CATAWBA COLLEGE

FIRST FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

 

This is a scholarship competition available for eligible students accepted to Catawba College. 

Criteria: SAT score of 1150 or ACT score of 25 and a GPA of 3.5

Amount:  Full tuition scholarships along with scholarships that are $14,500 and up

C.L. ROBBINS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is available to students from Caldwell County. They must demonstrate academic achievement, worthiness and character, and financial need.  The scholarship may be applied to the cost of tuition, fess, supplies and books.

 

Applicants must plan to attend one of the following junior colleges:

 

Central Piedmont Community College, Kings College, Patterson School, Western Piedmont Community College, Caldwell Community College, Catawba Valley Community College, Lees-McRae College or Wilkes Community College.

Deadlines:

Applications will be available in February (with an April 15 deadline) for students wishing to apply for a scholarship for summer school

Applications will be available in September (with a November 15 deadline) for students wishing to apply for a scholarship for spring semester.

 

Each award will be for one semester only and current recipients will have to reapply for each term they are seeking aid.

COCA-COLA SCHOLARSHIP

Awards are $20,000 and $10,000 over a period of four years based on character, and personal merit.

Criteria:   High school senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA at the end of Jr. year. 

                Plan to pursue degree at an accredited college

                Demonstrate leadership in school and show commitment to community

                Part-Time employment

                May not be children or grandchildren of employees of Coca-Cola

COFFEY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Coffey Foundation is a non-profit organization that will award 8 scholarships to students from Caldwell County.  The scholarship this year will be worth $8,000 a year for 4 years.

Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Completed applications including a recent photo, essay, and transcript are due to Mr. Kunkle by MONDAY, APRIL 7.

COMMITMENT TO AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

(Monsanto Company)

 

One-time awards of $1,500 will be made to 100 high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in an agriculture-related field.

CREATE – A- GREETING CARD SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY DEPT. OF MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE EDUCATION--ABERNATHY SCHOLARSHIP

 This is a new scholarship offered for the upcoming academic year (beginning fall 2008).  Important Points about the Scholarship:

The Abernathy Scholarship is for deserving students pursuing a degree in the area of Science Education through the College of Education at ECU and who wish to pursue a career as a SCIENCE TEACHER.

The amount of the award is $2,500 ($1,250 for each of two semesters) and is renewable provided all scholarship criteria are continually met.

bullet

Criteria for the scholarship are  a) acceptance to attend ECU, b) academic merit – at least a 3.0 high school GPA and c) demonstrated commitment to the study fo and a career in science education.

Application DEADLINE is JANUARY 31, 2008

The scholarship will be officially awarded at the College of Education’s Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony Thursday, March 27, 2008.

THE J. LEROY COOK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM--Case Farms

Eligibility:

The applying student must be a son or daughter of an employee of Case Farms and its affiliates (Case Foods, Inc., Case Farms, LLC, and Case Farms Processing, Inc.)  The student’s parent must be a current full-time employee and have a minimum of one year of service prior to the student submitting an application.

Be an incoming freshman or a current student at any four-year college or university in the fall of 2008

Amount of Award:

Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded each year.

bullet

Scholarship payments are made directly to the college or university where the recipient enrolls.

bullet

The scholarship may be applied toward expenses for tuition, required fees, books, or materials

Based on the submitted application package, scholarship winners will be chosen on a competitive basis and without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference.  A Scholarship Committee of independent professionals outside of Case Farms will choose the winners by evaluating several factors about each eligible candidate, including:

bullet Significant activities and contributions to the school and community
bullet College entrance test scores
bullet Personal references
bullet Financial need

ELON UNIVERSITY

The Leon and Lorraine Watson North Carolina Scholarship Program.  The Watson Scholarship carries an award of $10,000 in scholarships and grants.  In addition, each recipient receives a study abroad grant in the amount of $4,000.

GARDNER-WEBB UNIVERSITY

Gardner-Webb University is offering a scholarship competition.  It allows students to compete for 5 full tuition, room and board Presidential Fellows scholarships, 5 full tuition Academic Fellows scholarship, and 2 80% of tuition University Fellow scholarships.

The academic criteria consist of the following:  A 24 on the ACT, GPA of 3.6 or higher and at least an 1130 (reading and math) on the SAT.  Nominations must be mailed or faxed by  OCT. 15th.

GOLDEN LEAF SCHOLARS PROGRAM

A grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation will fund a scholarship program for students who will attend any of the 16 campuses of the University of North Carolina during the 2008-2009 academic year.

 

Up to 580 scholarships valued at $ 3,000 each will be awarded to current high school seniors and community college students who will enroll for the first time at one of the state’s sixteen public universities this fall, to current Golden LEAF scholarship recipients at public universities renewing their awards for the next academic year and to current undergraduate students at public universities who have not previously received funding through this program.

 

Available for candidates with demonstrated financial need who reside in any of the 73 eligible counties identified as rural top tobacco-dependent counties or rural economically distressed Tier I, II, and III.  Caldwell County is on the list of qualifying counties.

HOLOCAUST 2008 REMEMBRANCE PROJECT ESSAY CONTEST

Contest is open to all students age 19 and under who are currently enrolled as a high school student in grade 9-12 or are high school seniors who may graduate high school at any time in 2008.  Students must be a resident of the United States or Mexico.

 

Essay Topic:  (a) analyze why it is so vital that the remembrance, history and lessons of the Holocaust be passed to a new generation; and (b) suggest what they, as students, can do to combat and prevent prejudice, discrimination, and violence in our world today.

CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

 This program gives high academic achievers an opportunity to earn renewable scholarships, valued from $7,500 to full tuition. Chancellor’s scholarship recipients are chosen from students who are accepted into the university’s honors program.  Historically, they have proven to be among our top students, both in terms of academic performance and campus involvement.  J & W also continues to offer the Presidential Scholarship, valued at up to $5,000 annually.

KENNETH N. HOUSTON SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The Catawba Valley Chapter of Professional Construction Estimators of America again this spring will award scholarship money to deserving high school seniors and college undergraduates preparing to enter construction related careers.
