The following senior superlatives will have pictures made during Channel One on Monday, November 24:  Shea Daniels, Ricky Arnold, Taylor Horton, Jon Easton, Elizabeth Norris, Alex Haney, Bethany Vines, Brooklyn Bolick, Josh Stamey, Lauren Roland, Jack Howard, Anna Wedding, Bryan Tuttle, Kate Warlick, and Cyrus Henson.  Please meet in Mrs. Bryant's room in Rm. C5 Monday at the beginning of second period during Channel One.

 

Other senior superlatives will have pictures made on Tuesday, November 25 at the beginning of Channel One.  They are Kate Martin, Wesley Bradford, Travis Styres, Frazer Hinman, Mindy Crane, Brad Banks, Jenny McCrary, Max Lewis, Emily Harrison, and Dylan Crump.

 

FCA will be collecting lightly used sporting equipment for local children in need.  Balls, cleats, gloves, protective gear, and other equipment will be accepted.  A box will be provided in the office lobby, or bring larger items to Coach Crisp in Rm. B7.  This is part of a nationwide effort by FCA to provide children with sporting equipment this Christmas.  Thanks for your help.

 

Students who are interested in volunteering to help with Special Olympics on December 11 should see Mrs. Rebecca Smith in Rm. B4 by November 25.  Interested students must be approved by teachers in order to volunteer.  They will miss classes from 8:30 -12:30 on the day of the Olympics.

 

Students and Staff:  Toys for Tots will be collecting new toys for the Christmas holidays.  Anyone who would like to donate a new toy can place the item in the box labeled “Toys for Tots” outside the front office by Friday, December 6.   Please consider helping a young child for Christmas.

 

Want to learn about how to pay for college?  If so, then make sure you attend the Financial Aid Night on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 pm at the Broyhill Civic Center.  Representatives from UNC-Chapel Hill, Davidson, Western Carolina, and CCC&TI will be present to answer all of your financial aid questions.

 

Faculty and Staff

Rader's Choice Books are located in the mailroom.  Please turn in order forms and payment to Kelly Bryant by 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25.  Orders will be delivered on Monday, December 1.

 

Clubs

All Equestrian money needs to be turned into Mrs. Starnes before you leave for Thanksgiving break.

 

The Art Club is going to be doing art classes for children at the Shelter Home on Tuesday nights.  Club members interested in participating in this activity need to see Ms. Martine before Thanksgiving break.

 

Beta students may earn points by helping in the concession stand at tonight’s football game.  See Mrs. Beard if you are interested.

 

Beta students may also earn points by helping Habitat for Humanity tomorrow morning.  If you are interested, see Mrs. Beard for more details.

 

Juniors and seniors in the Beta Club who would like to attend the state convention February 5-7 need to pay a $50 non-refundable deposit to Ms. Greeno by Nov. 25.  Then, sophomores may sign up to attend.  The deadline for signups is December 11.  Total cost of the trip is $110.

 

Beta Club will be collecting shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child through Monday, November 24.

Men’s J.V. and Varsity Basketball practice will begin at 3:15 in the Auxiliary Gym.

General 

Thanks to all the students, faculty, and staff who donated blood yesterday.  Your donation will be put to great use in the next few weeks.  We may have fallen a little short of our goal but every drop of blood is needed and appreciated.  Our spring blood drive will be in March or April and 16 year olds will be able to give beginning in 2009. 

 

One of our Hibriten students has a parent at Hospice.  He would like to honor her by having our student body collect bottle tops to help fund cancer research.  Plastic bottle caps or anything that comes off drink containers can be used.  A container will be located beside the drink machine in the cafeteria today.

Hibriten High School will have a school wide assembly in the gym on Tuesday, December 2 at 8:15 am.  Michael Cobb, former Chicago Bear tight end, will address our students on making positive choices.  He is an excellent speaker and well worth the 45 minutes he will spend with us.  Teachers, please sit with your class during the assembly and put this date on your calendar.

 

Students who have turned in their Bloodmobile slip need to stop by Mr. Barnes’ classroom to get their schedule slip/hall pass.

 

There are still a number of slots available to give blood tomorrow. Any student who is 17 years plus, in good health, weighs at least 110 pounds, and has a valid driver’s license can sign up with Mr. Barnes today.

Faculty and staff are more than welcome to donate blood tomorrow.  Go at your convenience and they will get you through the process as soon as possible.

 

Faculty and staff are reminded to not park in the area to the left of the Auxiliary Gym tomorrow. The Red Cross needs that area for technical support staff and their truck.

 

Clubs

All TRIO/ETS students and parents are invited to attend the TRIO/ETS Induction Ceremony tonight at 6:30 at the J. E. Broyhill Civic Center.  All new TRIO/ETS students and seniors will be recognized.  TRIO/ETS seniors that attend will receive the G. Lewis Bernhardt Scholarship application and a TRIO flash-drive for attending.

 

The Hibriten H.S. Acting Company will be presenting its 2008 fall mainstage this weekend.  J.B. is the 1958 Pulitzer Prize winning play based upon a modernized version of the Old Testament book of Job.  The cast and crew features ten seniors, with the lead roles being carried by Jake Washburn as Job, Sarah Beth Potter as Job's wife, Justin Stirewalt as God, and Caleb Sigmon as Satan.  J.B. runs tonight, Saturday, and Monday night at 7:00, and the Sunday matinee begins at 2:00 pm.  Tickets for the show are $5.

Hibriten High School’s biannual Blood Drive is Wednesday in the Auxiliary Gym. Information is available through Mr. Barnes or by calling the Red Cross at 1-800-813-0486 (Ext. 126). One must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, and have a valid driver’s license or ID. Hibriten’s goal is 120 donators among the students, faculty, and staff. Please plan on donating. See Mr. Barnes in Rm. B9 to sign up and/or get additional information.
