Senior Year Expenses

The following is a statement of individual expenses, both optional and required, that will occur during the senior year.  We hope this information will help in the planning process.

As a fun project, seniors can order specialized class t-shirts around the beginning of November.  Buying a t-shirt or sweatshirt is NOT required, but generally students enjoy wearing these t-shirts for the remainder of the year.  Senior class officers choose the designs and then seniors can order the shirts once the designs are announced in homeroom.  Prices for these shirts usually start around $15.00 for t-shirts and may range up to $28.00 for sweatshirts.  See Mrs. Bryant (Room C5) or Ms. Lipford (Room C3) for details.

The yearbook will cost $48.15 plus tax and handling.  The yearbook company will send an invoice to your home once the order has been placed.  See Pat Hall in the Graphics Department if you have any questions.  Yearbook ad costs are posted below and are on our website.

Learn and Earn Online

Great way to take advantage of college classes in high school. There are a few ways to excel in this venue.

Classes are offered by UNC-G online and carry an honors credit. The course has a 93% success rate of transferring to college. Caldwell County Schools pays for all classes and the books. You must be a Junior or Senior to take one of these classes. See Counseling Services  if you are interested or visit
http://ischool.uncg.edu  It is anticipated that many more UNC public schools will be participating in the 2009-2010 school year.

NCVPS (North Carolina Virtual Public High School) is another way to gain credit through online courses. At times classes are not available on campus for what a student wishes to take. By offering classes online, more options are available.

SAT/ACT

If you have taken the appropriate classes and are going to a four-year college from high school, you need to take the SAT test two times.  If you will not get Algebra II until second semester or did not do well on SAT, you may try the ACT which is another college admissions test that has a smaller portion of math questions.

Students planning to attend CCC&TI and transfer to a four-year school do not need to take the SAT.  These students will take a placement test at CCC&TI Testing Center.

Transcript Release Form:  In order to send a transcript, we must have a release form on file.  We will have these forms available at Senior Night.

Athletes:  All athletes anticipating playing sports in college must complete the NCAA Clearinghouse form.  The forms are online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.com.  Once you have completed the application, bring to Mrs. Deal the statement indicating that you have applied and instructing her to send a transcript.

Most students apply to college in late October and November unless they are doing early admission.  If a school does not have an early admission program, you may apply whenever it is most convenient, as long as you meet the deadlines.

Completing Applications:

  1. Read through the entire application (whether online or by paper)

  2. If it is a paper application, use a black ink pen.

  3. If you are unsure about an item, leave it blank until Mrs. Deal can review it with you.

  4. Using the transcript request form (on Ms. Oseni's desk), request a transcript, allowing five days notice.  You must have a transcript release form on file in order to receive a transcript.

  5. Be sure to include the "Counselor Statement" with the transcript request for those schools requiring an additional form.
